Why Simple Works

When it comes to food, it can go from easy to complicated in a real hurry.

Being with food can make us feel warm and fuzzy, right up until it makes us hate ourselves.

Food is every day. We are every day. So let’s make every day simpler, easier, warmer, and fuzzier.

When I started this blog, the purpose was to showcase how friendly and easy food can be. I quickly got wrapped up into the rat race — look at everyone else’s videos! They have such cool gadgets and tools, and so many ingredients!

Yes they do, and that’s wonderful for them. That’s wonderful for you, if you like to be inundated with rules, measurements, spice racks, and multiple electrical outlets near your kitchen island.

But it overwhelms me. I don’t like being told what to do. Very much less do I like being directed. So anything that comes with a manual, or steps that must be done in a particular order… I quickly lose interest.

Food, for me, is earthiness. It grounds me. So I want to strip away any “man made” guidelines and rules, and just feel my way through whatever dish I am working with. Maybe it ends up tasting less than great — but I don’t think it makes it any less worthy.

I love cookbooks as an entertainment outlet. I do not love them as instruction manuals for my kitchen. It is my kitchen after all, and I reserve the freedom to create a meal however I see fit.

The point for me is connection.

What good vibes and energy went through and expressed their way into my cooking? What did I learn? What songs made me swing my hips while I sautéed those vegetables? How much fun did I have?

It is less about the end result. It is the process. Be with it. Be grounded, be present, be unafraid.

Love your food, and trust your creative process.
